Unity Care NW provides dental care for children and adults. Our approach to care is based on prevention.

Dental Services

Unity Care NW provides dental services to our patients and safety is our priority. To learn more about what we’re doing to ensure the safety of patients and staff during the COVID-19 pandemic, click here.

We prioritize children, pregnant women, and parents of children who are Unity Care NW patients in order to break the intergenerational cycle of dental caries. Because dental caries or “cavities” are caused by bacteria that can be spread within the household, we focus on treating the whole family.

Our care teams include dentists, hygienists, and dental assistants. Dental services include:

  • Exams
  • Cleanings
  • Sealants
  • Fluoride treatment
  • X-rays
  • Fillings (restorative care)
  • Removing teeth (extractions)
  • Information on how to care for your teeth

Adult Dental

Adult Dental Care Overview

Adult dental care is one of the most needed but least available services in Whatcom County. An estimated 45,000 Whatcom County residents lack access to dental care. Unity Care NW has expanded its dental facilities in recent years, but we are still only able to meet a small portion of the need. We are committed to continuing to work with the community to expand services and access to adult dental care. In the meantime, we prioritize dental care for the following groups:

  • Pregnant women
  • Parents of our pediatric patients
  • Our established pediatric dental patients once they reach adulthood
  • People living with HIV
  • Developmentally disabled patients
  • Adults with dental emergencies
  • Unity Care NW medical patients with certain health conditions who are referred by their provider

For more information about access to our dental services, please call us at (360) 676-6177.

Emergency Dental Care

Unity Care NW is currently offering emergency dental care to anyone living in Whatcom County. If you are in pain or have swelling, call (360) 676-6177 to make an appointment. Please bring a list of medications you are currently taking to your appointment.

You can help ensure that everyone can access dental care!

Children’s Dental

Children’s Dental Care Overview

Unity Care NW is dedicated to breaking the cycle of dental disease that runs in families. Dental caries or “cavities” are caused by bacteria that can be passed among family members. To prevent this, we provide dental care to children, pregnant women, and the parents of children who are Unity Care NW patients. To make an appointment, call (360) 676-6177.

Our dental services include:

  • Exams
  • Cleanings
  • Fillings (restorative care)
  • X-rays
  • Sealants
  • Fluoride applications
  • Oral hygiene instruction
  • Free custom sports mouth guards

We recommend that your child begin seeing a dentist by their first birthday or when their first tooth appears, whichever is first.

Mobile Dental Program

The Unity Care NW mobile dental program provides routine dental care at elementary and middle schools, Head Start programs, and daycare centers throughout Whatcom County. Mobile Dental Program staff provide exams, cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, and oral hygiene instruction.

For more information about the Mobile Dental Program, contact the Dental Access Coordinator at (360) 676-6177, ext. 1181.

Please note that our Bellingham and Ferndale Health Centers open later Thursday mornings at 9:00am.
