Jonathan is a practicing attorney and principal of Samish Hill Legal in Bellingham. He is a graduate of the University of Washington journalism program and Villanova University School of Law. His professional career has taken him from covering the Washington State Capitol in Olympia as a journalist for The Oregonian, to working as a U.S. Congressional staffer for one of the “Stupak Nine” during the passage of the Affordable Care Act in 2010, to his current role as a general counsel and litigation attorney in Washington, representing a broad range of individuals and business. He regularly serves as a volunteer attorney for LAW Advocates and is proud to contribute to the Whatcom County community in new ways with his role on the Unity Care NW board.

Jonathan King
Jonny has been a patient with Unity Care NW for over 20 years, experiencing firsthand the organization’s dedication to accessible, high-quality healthcare. He works in civic and nonprofit engagement, and has spent years supporting programs through C4PIN and other nonprofits, helping people build skills, strengthen networks, and achieve success. He joined the UCNW Board in 2026 to further engage with community-minded individuals and serve as a catalyst for their growth. Jonny fondly remembers the gumball machine at the children’s dental office, where picking a small toy or sticker after appointments made him excited to visit the dentist, which was an early experience that shaped his appreciation for patient-centered care. He is honored to serve on the Board and looks forward to helping Unity Care NW continue making a meaningful impact in Whatcom County.
Chelsea Joefield-Cairwyn
Chelsea graduated in 2025 with her Masters in Public Health and has worked in higher education, health education, and is currently working in community engagement & programming. Working within and advocating for marginalized and underrepresented populations remains her focus in any role she holds. She is passionate about maternal & infant health, patient advocacy, and quality measures. Chelsea joined the Board in February 2025 and is dedicated to working with UCNW to continue working towards ensuring that everyone has access to care necessary to thrive.
Maria Bosch, PA-C
I joined Unity Care NW in 2026. I received my Master of Physician Assistant Studies from Pace University and Bachelor of Spanish Studies from Calvin College. I am a compassionate family medicine Physician Assistant with experience delivering inclusive, culturally responsive care to patients from a wide range of backgrounds. I support sustainable health outcomes by meeting patients where they are and providing care rooted in empathy and deep listening. I feel comfortable communicating with patients in English and Spanish.
Dulce Duarte, DMD
I joined Unity Care NW in 2026. I received my Doctor of Dental Medicine from Autonomous University of Paraguay and my Master of Oral Pathology at La Sorbonne University in Paris, France. I completed a residency program at the University of Connecticut, and am a passionate and caring General Dentist with experience in performing operative dentistry, fixed and removable prosthodontics, endodontics and oral surgery. I feel comfortable communicating with patients in English, Spanish, French and Portuguese. In my free time, I like to read and cultivate plants.
Mariah Satran, LICSWA
I joined Unity Care NW in 2026. I received my Master of Social Work from Fordham University and Bachelor of Social Work and Sociology from University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point. I am a compassionate mental health professional who focuses on creating environments that are safe and supportive where individuals can feel empowered to make change. I am committed to meeting individuals where they are at and supporting their path forward. In my free time, you can find me spending time with my friends and family, being outdoors on a solo adventure, or cozying up with my cat, Mochi, to watch a movie.
Susanna Epp, PsyD
My favorite place is a beach on the North Shore of O`ahu where I spent much of my youth. I enjoy being outdoors and in my free time I might be on a backpacking adventure, canoeing, or playing “chase you” with my grand puppy. After working in education and obtaining an MEd from Seattle University, I worked as a special education consultant in the Peace Corps in Ecuador. I earned a Doctor of Psychology degree from Argosy University, Hawai`i allowing me to work in multiple settings as a clinical psychologist.
After working with adults in residential substance abuse treatment programs, as the Director of the Children’s Mental Health program on a reservation in rural Alaska, and with individuals, couples, and groups in private practice, I joined Unity Care NW in 2025. Returning to community health has allowed me the opportunity to work collaboratively with a team of professionals providing quality services for our community members.
Chelsea Mackay, PA-C
I joined Unity Care NW in 2025. I received my Master of Medical Science and Bachelor of Public Health from Mercer University. I am a Certified Physician Assistant who has experience implementing evidence-based techniques to provide care for patients with acute conditions, chronic diseases and unique developmental needs. I enjoy working in community health because I love working with people to improve their health; I enjoy teaching and using preventive methods to improve well-being across the life span.
Brianna Case, ARNP
I joined Unity Care NW in 2025. I received my Doctor and Master of Nursing from Columbia University and my Bachelor of Spanish and International Studies from University of Oregon. I am a certified Family Nurse Practitioner who has experience in specialty and community health care. I am passionate about health education and aiding in chronic disease prevention in underserved populations. I am bilingual and feel comfortable communicating with patients in both English and Spanish.
Melissa Forsythe, SUDP
I joined Unity Care NW in 2025. I am currently pursuing my Master of Clinical Mental Health at Antioch University and hold a bachelor’s degree from Western Washington University. I am a certified Substance Abuse Counselor with seven years of experience in group teaching, conducting assessments, and counseling patients. I enjoy working in community health because I believe that everyone deserves access to quality healthcare. In my free time, I am an antique dealer and enjoy caring for plants.
