Celebrating Samson Rope on National Manufacturing Day

National Manufacturing Day is Friday, October 4th, and honors the innovators, makers, and organizations driving America’s production of goods, services, and technology. Whatcom County is home to several manufacturing organizations, such as our Health Care Champion Sponsor – Samson Rope. Today, we highlight and celebrate them not only for their industry leadership but for the vital role they play in uplifting our community.

In 1878, JP Tolman, a member of MIT’s first graduating class, founded the JP Tolman Company. Just five years later he patented a new switch braiding machine that would help launch what would become Samson Rope. Now located in Ferndale, the company makes synthetic rope, utilizing the latest innovative fibers, proprietary constructions, and coatings to design the perfect rope for multiple applications. For over 145 years, they have focused on developing ropes to meet the unique demands of diverse industries and customer needs.

Samson Rope is deeply committed to giving back to the communities they serve, forging strong partnerships, and providing donations and support to several local Whatcom County non-profits. They have focused their giving efforts on key areas where they feel they can deliver the greatest positive impact and make a lasting difference:

  • Breaking the Cycle of Poverty
  • Environmental Stewardship
  • Enriching Children’s Lives
  • Safe and Healthy Lifestyles
  • Celebrating Diversity

Unity Care NW is proud to have Samson Rope as one of our Health Care Champion Sponsors. Their generous support helps make it possible for us to provide critical health care for individuals and families who would not otherwise be able to afford it.
